Agricultural Science Doctoral Study Program and Master of Agribusiness Master Program in University of Medan Area successfully held an International Webinar “The Future Strategies of Estate Crops In The New Normal” On Thursday 16 July 2020 at 09.00 to 12.30 WIB. With 6 speakers, Dr. Ir. Antarjo Dikin, M.Sc (Secretary of the Directorate General of Plantations), Prof. John McCarthy (School of Economics and Government, ANU Australia), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shri Dewi A / P Applanaidu (Agribusiness Expert, UUM, Malaysia), Dr. Mulia Panusunan Nasution, D.E.S.S. (Plantation Practitioner / Former Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance), Prof. Ho Ngoc Phuong (Loyola University Chicago, Vietnam Center) and Mohd Zukime Bin Mat Junoh B.Econ., MSc. I.T, PhD (Center for the Study of Innovation in Commerce and Technological Innovation Center for Study of UNIMAP, Kangar, Perlis, MALAYSIA).
This international webinar was followed by a total of more than 900 participants both who joined through the Zoom application and Live Streaming through the University of Medan Area Channel. The webinar participants came from various regions throughout Indonesia and even abroad.
Before the webinar was started, the Postgraduate Director Prof. Dr. Ir. Hj. Retna Astuti K., MS. gave a speech and then the Chancellor of the Medan Area University Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng, M.Sc also gave his remarks.
The first speaker was Dr. Ir. Antarjo Dikin, M.Sc conveyed the theme “Policy And Strategy For Development Of Plantation In Opportunities And Challenges Of Plantation Sectors In New Normal”.
Then proceed with the second guest speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shri Dewi A / P Applanaidu delivered the theme “Agricultural Commodity Crops in Malaysia The Covid-19 Transmission Channels, New Norms and Way Forward”.
Then proceed with the third speaker Dr. Mulia Panusunan Nasution, D.E.S.S. delivered the theme “Potential, constraints, challenges, and opportunities of the Arabica coffee production in Indonesia”.
Then proceed with the fourth guest speaker, Prof. Ho Ngoc Phuong delivered the theme “Theoretical views and experiences in the rapid progress of plantations in Vietnam and the Opportunities and Challenges of plantation development in New Normal”.
Then proceed with the fifth speaker, Mohd Zukime Bin Mat Junoh B.Econ., MSc. I.T, PhD delivered the theme “Experience in the Rapid Progress of Plantation Development Malaysia Opportunities and Challenges of Plantation Development in New Normal”.
And the last speaker, Prof. John McCarthy delivered the theme “COVID-19 and Food Security in Rural Indonesia”.
